LASIK with IntraLase® and CustomVue™

The IntraLase Method™ also called Femtosecond LASIK is a highly sophisticated LASIK procedure that allows eye surgeons to create corneal flaps with a laser instead of a blade. View a video featuring Femtosecond LASIK. This method is safer and more precise than making the flap with a blade. VISX CustomVue™ – also known as custom or Wavefront™ LASIK – is the state-of-the-art form of laser eye surgery and is offered at our Puyallup office laser suite for Cascade patients from University Place / Tacoma, Federal Way, Olympia, Washington and other locations in the south Puget Sound area. By creating a three-dimensional computer-generated “fingerprint” of each eye before treating it, Cascade surgeons are able to design a surgical procedure to address each patient’s individual eyes and specific visual needs. Every LASIK procedure at Cascade Eye & Skin Centers, P.C., is performed using this “all-laser” custom Wavefront™ technique.

PRK

PRK laser eye surgery is sometimes a good option for patients who are not candidates for LASIK. Rather than creating a corneal flap, as in a LASIK procedure, the surgeon performing PRK removes the superficial outer layer of the cornea to expose the middle layers, which are then reshaped with the laser. PRK at Cascade is also performed using the VISX CustomVue™ technique.

NearVisionsm CK®

Patients over age 40 who have had good vision all their lives gradually find it more difficult to read. This is a normal aging change. For problems with reading, sewing, and other close-vision activities that occur with middle age, we offer NearVisionsm CK®. CK® is a painless outpatient procedure in which radiofrequency energy is gently applied to the cornea to steepen its contour. After CK, baby boomers can again see a menu or read a newspaper with much less dependence on reading glasses.

Eyelid Surgery: Blepharoplasty and Brow Lift

Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is performed to reshape the eyelids by removing excess skin and other eyelid tissue. In a brow lift, the skin of the forehead is elevated to correct drooping in the brow area. Blepharoplasty and brow lift may improve both cosmetic appearance and functional vision. These procedures can make you look years younger. Other eyelid surgery procedures offered at Cascade Eye & Skin Centers, P.C., include repair of in-turned eyelids (Entropion) and out-turned eyelids (Ectropion) and surgery for tearing problems.

Cataract Surgery

Cataracts (clouded natural lenses of the eyes) are the leading cause of blindness worldwide. Cataracts develop with age, but can also be caused by eye diseases or injuries. Modern cataract surgery is fast, safe, and can quickly produce remarkable improvement in vision. Cascade Eye & Skin Centers, P.C., has its own outpatient Cataract Surgery Center, where patients are treated by highly experienced cataract surgeons and staff in a low-stress environment.

Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)

An intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted inside the eye to replace the clouded natural lens during cataract surgery. New multifocal lens implants improve close as well as distance vision in cataract patients and are sometimes placed in patients without cataracts who wish to reduce their dependence on glasses or contacts and are not good candidates for laser eye surgery.

Glaucoma Services

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases where pressure inside the eye causes damage to the optic nerve. Glaucoma is often referred to as "the sneak thief of sight" because in most cases, visual loss is slow and painless. Our ophthalmologists are trained in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, including the use of lasers (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty).
